Mr. Jason X. Herrera, Principal

As I begin my seventh year as Principal of Eisenhower Middle School, I am honored to continue serving the students, families, and staff of the Eisenhower community. This year also marks my 30th year in education, a milestone that represents a career built on a deep commitment to students, learning, and the power of strong school communities.

My career in education began in the classroom, where I taught Social Studies and AVID and developed a passion for helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, and prepare for their future. In 2008, I began my administrative career as an Assistant Principal, taking on the opportunity to support students and teachers from a broader leadership perspective.

In 2014, I joined North East ISD, beginning my journey with the district at James Madison High School. Since then, I have been fortunate to serve in leadership roles that have strengthened my belief that every student deserves to feel valued, supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed.

At Eisenhower, our goal is to create a school where students feel safe, comfortable, welcomed, and ready to learn. We are committed to providing every student with a high-quality education while nurturing their academic, social, and emotional growth. I believe that when students know they belong, families feel connected, and educators work together with purpose, remarkable things can happen.

I am proud to be an Eisenhower General and excited to begin another year of Growing Generals, Building Futures, and serving our students with excellence. It is a privilege to lead a school community where every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and become the best version of themselves.

Mrs. Samantha Canales

Mrs. Samantha Canales, Assistant Principal

I’m Samantha Canales, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, families, and staff of Eisenhower Middle School. Ike is a special community, and I truly enjoy getting to know our students, celebrating their successes, and helping them work through challenges along the way.

Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to serve as a reading teacher, special education teacher and coordinator, instructional coach, academic dean, and assistant principal. Each of these roles has shaped who I am as an educator and reinforced my belief that relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Students are more likely to thrive when they know the adults around them believe in them, care about them, and will continue to encourage them—even when things get difficult.

As a campus leader, I am passionate about creating a school where students feel safe, welcomed, and excited to learn. I also enjoy supporting teachers, developing future leaders, and partnering with families to help every student reach their full potential. I believe every child has unique strengths, and it is our responsibility to recognize those strengths and help them grow.

When I’m not at school, you can usually find me reading, fishing, hiking, or spending time with family and friends. I am proud to be part of the Eisenhower family and look forward to continuing to grow learners, grow leaders, and create new opportunities for every student.
